Adjoining the Church of St Francis of Assisi and also located in the Se Cathedral grounds is the chapel of St Catherine of Alexandria. The chapel was built to commemorate the Portugese (led by Alfonso d'Albuquerque) victory over the Muslims that ruled the city. The battle was won on Nov 25th 1510 and this day was celebrated as the feast of St Catherine. I love this chapel because it has such an earthy look. Made entirely of brick, it has imposing doors and windows. This picture is of the chapel's right side. On this side, there is a small cobbled slope that leads to the church. At this spot, there stood the gate throught which the Portugese entered the Muslim city. Old Goa is so rich in history and yet none of it is in the school syllabus... Posted by Hello
